A TRIBUTE TO SOMEONE SPECIAL
A year ago I wrote a little story about a very special lady, my mom. Now I’d like to tell you a little bit about another special lady, Evelyn Genois Pelletier, my mother-in-law, who I lovingly call “Grandma”.
I met Grandma 30 years ago. I knew instantly that she would become someone very special in my life. She was such an active lady. She loved gardening, ceramics, pottery, needle-point, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She made the best fudge in the world. She loved to make pâté chinois, tortierres, ragout de boullettes and roast beef. She loved to fatten us up with her date squares and her dream bars for dessert. How could one person be so talented?
She loved to play cards and always wanted to be surrounded by lots of people. She had the most infectious laugh and I’ve been told she had a beautiful smile too. She loved music and she loved to sing And remembered every word of every song she ever knew right up to her 95th birthday.
Before I met her she worked at Woolworth’s and then at Laura Secord. She told me that her boss at Laura Secord insisted that all his employees eat a pound of chocolates a week while she worked there. What a sacrifice! She never lost her love for chocolate, right up to the very end. She even ate chocolate cake on her 95th birthday.
We had so much in common. We both loved chocolate. We both loved to play cards and we both loved to chat into the wee hours of the morning when I slept in her room with her at night on the weekends when we would visit.
Grandma passed away on January 3rd of this year. I will never forget her love for life. I will always treasure every moment we spent together. She was truly someone special in my life!!!
